At Aspire Physio Bunbury, we want to help improve your sporting performance. Strength and conditioning for young athletes is essential for building a solid athletic foundation. Research shows that properly supervised resistance training offers numerous physical and psychological benefits for children and adolescents.
Strength and conditioning programs help develop:
Enhanced strength and power
Increased speed and agility
Better coordination and change of direction
Improved overall sporting performance
Reduced risk of injury
Stronger bones and better body composition
Greater confidence and psychosocial wellbeing
Despite these advantages, many parents still ask: What age is safe to begin strength and conditioning? And What precautions are necessary to ensure safety during resistance training for kids?
According to the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA), strength and conditioning training can safely begin at around 6 years of age—if children can follow instructions and exercises are closely supervised by qualified professionals.
It’s important that the resistance exercises are tailored to each child’s developmental stage. At our clinic, our physiotherapists Pia and Tyne are ASCA-accredited Strength and Conditioning Coaches, specially trained in youth performance development.
Improving athletic performance in young athletes requires more than just playing sports. Strength and Conditioning for Young Athletes provides the necessary stimulus to develop strength, power, and coordination—skills often underdeveloped through sports alone.

Our programs are crafted specifically for youth. We incorporate guidelines based on age, skill level, and individual development. Most importantly, all sessions are monitored by trained physiotherapists to ensure safety and optimal results.
These classes not only help reduce sports-related injuries but also promote healthy lifestyle habits from an early age.
To begin, we conduct a detailed assessment using our state-of-the-art AxIT system. This system provides objective insights into each young athlete’s strength and movement literacy. As a result, we can design a customized and safe training program tailored to their specific needs.
Once the assessment is complete, athletes can join our small-group classes (maximum 6 participants). These circuit-based sessions are highly personalized. Moreover, each exercise is adapted to suit individual goals and is supervised closely to ensure proper form and safe progression. Importantly, our programs are delivered in structured 8-week blocks for optimal results.
After completing the 8-week program, we recommend a follow-up assessment using the AxIT system. This reassessment allows us to evaluate improvements, identify areas that still need work, and fine-tune the training plan for ongoing development.
